The 2020-21 version of the Stanley-Boyd Orioles boys basketball team took the court for the first time Friday night on the home court.
The Orioles feature a lineup with a several players with a few years of varsity experience combined with some young talent that will make an impact on S-B hoops for years to come.
The Orioles played a non-conference game against Somerset, which hopes to contend this year in the rigorous Middle Border Conference. The Orioles stymied the Spartans in the first half, jumping out to a 32-23 intermission lead. However, Somerset came on strong the second half and escaped with a 55-47 win.
Lucas Smith led the balanced Oriole scoring attack with 11 points. Carson Hause and Mikey Karlen scored nine each, while Logan Burzynski scored eight. Spencer Booth scored six points, and Cooper Nichols added four.
The Orioles made it to the free throw line just eight times in the game, and connected on seven of them.
The Orioles host Cadott Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Spring Valley Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
