The Oriole boys varsity is on a roll. The team went to Fall Creek on Friday, Dec. 5, where it took home a 65-53 win against the Crickets, following a 77-57 win against Edgar on Monday night.
Orioles head boys varsity basketball coach Dakota Nichols shared more after the scores were tallied.
“We did a great job of using our size advantage to score inside, and kick out for threes,” he said of the win against Edgar. “We did an excellent job of communicating on defense and matching Edgar’s physicality.”
Top scorers against Edgar were Brenner Myers with 27 points, Charlie Hoel with 25, and Ryan Stark with 12. Troy Haas contributed seven points, while Carsen Woodcock contributed three, and Brayten Mallo made two.
As for Friday against Fall Creek, Nichols said the team showed patience.
“Fall Creek is always a tough place to play, as we haven’t won in that gym since 2019,” he said. “The boys did a great job of controlling the tempo and taking what the defense gave us. We were patient with the ball and took advantage of mismatches on the low block. Our team shot the ball 50% from the 3pt line, which really makes it difficult for teams to double down low.”
Top players for Friday’s game at Fall Creek include Charlie Hoel with 17 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks, Josiah Demske with 17 points and nine rebounds, and Brayten Mallo with 13 points and three assists.
Also contributing points against the Crickets meanwhile were Brenner Myers with 10, Carsen Woodcock with seven, and Jesse Allard with two.
The Orioles face Thorp on Thursday, Dec. 18 at home. Game start is 7:00 p.m.
