The long dry stretch has ended. Facing off against Cadott, Greenwood, and Bruce recently, the Orioles came away with three wins, the scores being 3-0 against Cadott, 18-8 against Greenwood, and 12-2 against Bruce.
With the team now ranked sixth in the Cloverbelt with a 2-8 conference record, Orioles varsity head Coach Ryan Sturm shared more on the win at Cadott.
“It was great to finally get a win after such a long stretch!” he said of the second game in a double header. “The boys played a clean, disciplined game. Dawson Ewer delivered the best pitching performance of his career, and both Carter Weltzin and Alex Williams came through with key hits that helped secure the victory.
“I’m incredibly proud of these boys for persevering through a tough losing streak and continuing to work hard every day. Coaching this team has truly been a pleasure, and I’m hopeful we can carry this momentum and finish the season strong.”

Tiry walked in the first inning to score one, tripled in the second to score two, doubling in the third to score one, and hit a single in the fourth to score one. Also of note in the game against Greenwood were Dylan Robinson and Gindt. Robinson pitched two innings and batted three runs in, also making two runs and one stolen base. Gindt was able to get on base in four times, racking up three stolen bases, three runs, and three runs batted in. Following up Greenwood, the Orioles played Bruce May 19, finishing 12-2 against the Red Raiders. Of note for the game against Bruce were Alex Williams who had three runs batted in, as well as two runs and two doubles.
Also of note at Bruce were Josiah Demske, Landon Ewer and Jackson Gindt. Demske took two stolen bases, plus two runs and one batted in, while Ewer stole one base, batted two runs in and made one run to boot. Gindt made two runs and had one stolen base.
Coach Sturm summed things up on the three game win streak.
“We have been playing more consistent baseball,” he said. “We are putting the ball in play and scoring more runs than we were earlier in the season. Dawson Ewer and Alex Williams have been throwing a lot of strikes and they have been pitching really well. This has been a fun team to coach in the last two weeks. We are playing our best ball of the season.”
The Orioles play Regis in regional competition on Thursday, May 29 at Carson Park. Game start is 1:00 p.m.
