With practice made and roster determined, the Orioles boys varsity basketball team will play Colby at Colby this Thursday, Nov. 30 after playing Elk Mound Tuesday, Nov. 28. Head Coach Dakota Nichols had more to share on what the season might look like earlier this week.
“Starters will depend on the opposing teams tendencies, matchups, how well the boys are playing, etc. and will vary from game to game,” he said. “However the main guys on our varsity team this season are Henry Hoel, Haydn Gustafson, Landon Karlen, Riley Weltzin, JJ Heller, Charlie Hoel, Logan Gray, Carter Isenberger, Lucas Walker, Jackson Gindt, and Riley Schad.”
Looking to who the Orioles will face, Nichols saw a good match.
“Elk Mound won 20 games last season and were the Dunn-St.Croix conference champs,” he said. “They return 4 starters and will be a tough first game of the season. I think we matchup well against them, it will come down to taking care of the basketball and limiting elk mounds second chance opportunities.”
As to Colby, Nichols noted that, “Colby went 17-6 last year and were the Eastern Cloverbelt conference champs. This will be another good game to see where we are at.”
The game against Colby starts 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, at Colby High School.
