The Oriole Cross Country team competed in the inaugural Indee Invite at Pietrek Park south of Independence on Tuesday 8/26. The runners were able to bring home an impressive amount of hardware; winning the team trophies for both the girls and boys and having several medalists. Freshman John Smit set the initial course record with his victory in a time of 18:44. John was joined in the top ten by teammates Elihu Krenzelok (4th, 20:04), Cameron Natzke (6th, 20:56), and Hunter Ogle (9th, 22:06). In the girls race sophomores Haylee Shakal and Mariah Wehling earned top ten honors placing 5th and 7th with times of 22:41 and 23:27 respectively.
“It was a great first meet. The kids came into the season after putting in plenty of summer miles and eager to do well individually and as a team and they did just that,” coach Nick Mahr reported. The Orioles are in action next on 9/6 at Colby and host their home meet on Thursday September 11th on the trails east of the school.
