The Stanley-Boyd Oriole football team closes out the home portion of its schedule Friday night, taking on Osseo-Fairchild. The Orioles come into the game 3-2 in the Cloverbelt Conference after falling in overtime at undefeated Durand Friday night by a 28-21 margin. O-F is 1-4 on the year.

The Orioles drew first blood at Durand, as quarterback Carsen Hause handed off to Mike Karlen, who dashed 55 yards for the opening score just 18 seconds into the game. Karlen then kicked the extra point.

Durand tied the game late in the first, and Karlen got S-B back on top with a 26-yard field goal midway through the second quarter.

Durand went up 14-10, and Karlen’s second field goal of the quarter – this one a 27-yarder – brought the Orioles within a point at the half.

Durand closed out the third quarter with a touchdown run to go up 21-13.

In the thrilling fourth quarter, Hause connected with Jake Nesterick for a 30-yard touchdown strike. Needing the two point conversion, Karlen lined up to kick and passed to Be Chwala to tie the game 21-21. The Oriole defense held Durand, and the game went to overtime.

Durand put up seven points in OT for the win.

Hause connected on 19-27 passes for 150 yards for the Orioles. The versatile Karlen caught nine of those passes for 41 yards. Lucas Smith and Brady Potaczek caught three passes, while Chwala and Cooper Nichols caught two.

Karlen also led the way out of the backfield, rushing seven times for 76 yards. Nesterick had 10 carries for 48 yards, while Potaczek carried the ball nine times for 30 yards.

Durand did most of its damage on the ground against the Orioles, outrushing S-B 208 yards to 149.
