Regionals up next for Stanley-Boyd Girls Varsity
Coming off a 53 – 54 loss to Regis on the Ramblers home turf, the Oriole girls varsity scored a win over the Altoona Railroaders at home, coming away from a hard-fought game with 32 – 30, the final point scored in a free throw with just seconds to go.
Coming out of the gate, the Oriole starting lineup saw number 10 Emily Brenner, number 12 Kayte Licht, number 22 Lily Hoel, number 24 Teagan Becker, and number 34 Mallory Eslinger take the floor, with the low-contact ball pass made from the side to the Lady Rails and thence into Oriole territory, Stanley-Boyd successfully defended its own basket, the ball being interecepted by Emily Brenner and passed off to Mallory Eslinger who took it down court. From Eslinger it went to Becker, who passed it to Brenner, followed by the referee whistle.
Regardless of this intial setback, the Oriole girls went on to win over the Lady Rails (as Altoona was referred to), with an extra point added with just five seconds on the clock by Becker to bring the final score 32 – 30 in Stanley-Boyd’s favor.
Going into the Regionals this week, the Orioles are in Division 3, together with Chequamegon, Colby, Stratford, and Neillsville, as non-participation by many schools in the Madison/Milwaukee area has led to an overhaul of the division brackets, with ‘pods’ of five to six teams paired up to face off shortly.
With just seconds left, number 24 Teagan Becker sank a free throw to close out the Varsity Oriole’s victory against the Altoona Railroaders at Stanley-Boyd 32 – 30. Image from You-Tube.
