Coming off a 43-30 loss to the Blackhawks, the Orioles bounced back this past week, notching two wins and a loss to bring their record 2-4 overall this season. Defeating Ladysmith 54-51 Monday, Dec. 2, the Orioles fell to Fall Creek 28-63 on Friday, before coming back to defeat Elmwood/Plum City 57-26 Saturday, Dec. 7.
Orioles Head Girls Basketball Coach Ryan Wundrow shared thoughts after the results.
“We continue to improve in our games,” Wundrow said. “Fall Creek is a really good team that will be in contention for the conference. Although they defeated us soundly on the scoreboard I thought we were very competitive. A year ago we were not that team and that game was over in the first two minutes. We were able to handle a full court press for the most part and didn’t get destroyed on the glass. Those are two huge steps in our progression to becoming a better basketball team. After a slow start on Saturday we were able to pick up the tempo and get a win against EPC. We are getting better because we take practice seriously and strive to get better each day. Our seniors deserve a lot of credit for guiding the young players and making them feel part of the team. Syleen Seichter hasn’t scored a lot but is doing a lot of the dirty work like rebounding and protecting the lane. Kamryn Derks is playing feisty defense when called upon. Lauren Potaczek and Aaliyah Allard are doing a lot of the ball handling and making our offense work. We are fortunate to have some seniors that are great kids and teammates.”
The Orioles face Cadott at Stanley-Boyd Thursday, Dec. 12 at Stanley-Boyd High School. Game start is 7:15 p.m.
