The Orioles girls varsity golf team took to the green at Bloomer on Thursday, Aug. 20, finishing first with a varsity team score of 184, after a fourth place finish at Pheasant Hills.
With 16 golfers this year, the Orioles were led at Bloomer by sophomore Hadley Bourget, who finished third individually with a 43. Junior Caitlen Ketterhagen shot a 44 for fifth, sophomore Vaida Chwala carded a 47 for seventh and junior Vivian Morrow finished 12th with a 50. Those four scores gave Stanley-Boyd its winning total of 184. Sophomore Abby Weltzin finished 19th with a 55.
Stanley-Boyd’s junior varsity also took first place with a team score of 224. Sophomore Gracelyn Goettl led the field with a 51, while senior Megan Potaczek placed second with a 52 and sophomore Elexis Hazuga was third with a 57. Seniors Chloe Isenberger and sophomore Olivia Overgard tied for fifth with scores of 58.
The Orioles followed up Bloomer with Osseo Monday night, finishing with a varsity team score of 206.
Orioles Coach Devon Wenndt shared more on Tuesday.
“A nice little contrast between Bloomer’s match on Thursday and last night’s showing in Osseo,” he said. “A nice little contrast of how things can look when things are going your way and when things aren’t. By and large, our girls were playing as well as they ever have at Bloomer. Then you have other days, like last night, when the ball doesn’t always go where you are looking. That’s golf, I guess. I think it’s a good thing that our girls got to see the best version of themselves because it sets the bar for us. Coach Gustafson and I are optimistic moving forward, and we look forward to our girls giving themselves a chance to compete each and every time they tee it up.”
