Oriole girls golf this past week saw the varsity travel to Lake Hallie, where Emme Felmlee once again led the pack, putting her in position to potentially advance to the WIAA Division 2 Sectional, finishing with an 89 for 18 holes and fourth place over- all. As to other players, Liberty Simon took 49 on the first 9 holes and 55 on the sec – ond nine for a score of 104 at Lake Hallie, while Hannah Tinjum came away with a 104 and Carly Verbeten with 116 over 18 holes. Kylie Weiland scored a 124. With the Orioles headed next to Regionals Coach Devon Wenndt shared some thoughts on the team and week to come.
“This week we have the honor of representing Stanley-Boyd in a WIAA Division 2 Regional competition held at Pheasant Hills in Hammond,” Wenndt said of the WIAA regional Sept. 28 hosted by Baldwin-Woodville. “The course is a favorite of mine for postseason play because I think it’s inherently fair. It doesn’t really favor one type of player over another, and it’s not a gimmicky course. What you see is what you get, and you simply have to go out and get it. That certainly doesn’t make it easy, but as stated above it does make it fair. Our girls are familiar enough with the layout and it should provide a good test for us. I think we played better than we scored at Lake Hallie last week (429 team score), and I’m hopeful that we can field a competitive team this week."
