The Oriole girls varsity golf season is coming to a close.
Playing the CloverCroix Conference Championship on Thursday, Sept. 25 at Lake Hallie, the girls varsity golf team finished third overall, taking home a team score of 407, behind Colfax/Elk Mound and Bloomer.
With the top five seeds contributing towards the overall varsity team score at Lake Hallie, Allie Goodman golfed a 95, followed by McKaila Simon with 98 and Caitlen Ketterhagen with 103. Lula Chwala took a score of 111, while Gracelynn Goettl scored 114.
Outside the top five seeds Vivian Morrow golfed a 105, Vaida Chwala scored 122, Elexis Hazuga Tok home a 119, Chloe Isenberger golfed 124, Abby Weltzin scored 134, Taryn Schad golfed 131, and Jasmine Hurth took home a score of 129.
Orioles Head Coach Devon Wenndt shared more on the Lake Hallie Conference tournament and how things have gone this season.
“I thought it was a great way to end the conference season,” he said. “Troy Timm at Lake Hallie has been wonderful to work with over the years, and once again allowed us to contest our final regular-season tournament on his golf course. Coach Gustafson and I were both very encouraged by many of the things we witnessed on Thursday. It would have been nice to have our team score come in under 400, but unfortunately, the game of golf has a funny way of throwing unexpected bounces your way to constantly keep things interesting. Regardless, I’m proud of how they competed. We’re eagerly awaiting Wednesday’s WIAA Regional at Rolling Oaks in Barron. Kudos to our ladies for playing their way into the final grouping with Colfax/Elk Mound and Bloomer. That should be a comfortable pairing, so hopefully that settles the nerves a bit. We got up to Barron to learn the course yesterday, and now have two days of practice to attend to a few things that need tidying up. Our season-long goal of moving our team through the Regional into the Sectional is right there in front of us. I feel as though the ladies are well prepared and are certainly very capable. Their level of success on Wednesday will be determined by how well they execute and, quite frankly, by what kind of luck they get. For better or for worse, a round of golf can be made or broken by a ball taking a good bounce or a bad bounce. Here’s hoping that we put ourselves in positions that are favorable enough that even the bad bounces won’t have a meaningful impact.”
