Now ranked fifth in the Cloverbelt with a 4-6 overall record, the Oriole girls varsity took on Black River Falls Dec. 9, scoring a 43-35 win against the Blackhawks. Following this with a 56-17 victory against Thorp at Thorp Dec. 17, losses to Cadott and McDonnell show room for improvement. Orioles Head Basketball Coach Ryan Wundrow shared thoughts earlier this month.
“We played one of our better games all year against Black River Falls,” he said. “Our defense did a nice job of not allowing them to get into an offensive flow. Kendall Sikora, Caitlyn Ketterhagen, and Ella Nitz led us in points with 19, 11 and 8 respectively. I really challenged them to pick up the pressure and energy in the second half and we did just that.
Meeting Cadott Dec. 12, the Orioles came away with a 49-41 loss, Coach Wundrow sharing his thoughts.
“The game against Cadott we just never got into a flow on offense and Cadott had a lot to do with that,” he said. “They played some great defense that didn’t allow us to get the shots we wanted. We learned a lot from that game and look to grow from it. Syleen Seichter did a nice job on the boards for us and had 7 points. Aaliyah Allard and Kendall Sikora led us with 12 points each. We look to rebound this week against Thorp and McDonell.”
Logging a win against Thorp 56-27 Dec. 17 with a loss to McDonell 51-32 Dec. 20, the Orioles next play Mondovi at home Friday, Dec. 27. Game start is 7:15 p.m.
