The Oriole girls varsity is on a roll.
Now 18-4 overall and ranked second in the Cloverbelt, the Stanley-Boyd Orioles followed up their last four wins with four more, defeating Cadott May 13 in a double header with final game scores of 8-4 and 12-1, St. Croix Central 4-2 on May 19, and Altoona 10-7.
Orioles Head Varsity Softball Coach Kim Goettl shared more on the season as it stands.
“We knew we would have to stay focused and sharp to win both games of a Double Header vs Cadott,” she said. “I also wanted to push our aggressiveness on the bases to see what we can get away with. Caitlen threw an impressive 15 strikeouts and batted a crazy .714 that night. Kendall Sikora had 5 RBIs. Kelly Lew added 5 stolen bases to her stats,” Goettl said.
“After all the games Tuesday we locked in at 2nd in Conference, just behind last year’s State champions, Fall Creek. We are very proud of that accomplishment!”
With the regular season now behind them, the Orioles now head into playoffs, which started Thursday.
Coach Goettl shared how things went and look for playoffs moving forward.
“Playoffs started last Thursday with SB getting a first round bye with the 4th seed,” she said. “Above us is number 1 Fall Creek 2024 state champs, number 2 Prescott 2024 state appearance, and number 3 Somerset 2023 state appearance. We finished off the regular season with a scrimmage with D2 St Croix Central winning the four innings played and taking on D2 Altoona. Earlier in the season Altoona beat Fall Creek and beat Prescott so we knew they are a solid team. The game went back and forth with us taking the win in the 7th 10-7. It was a full team win with everyone contributing, highlighted with Kelly Lew hitting two over the fence.”
Facing Elk Mound Tuesday after press time, Goettl said the “Orioles are looking to continue with their 11 game winning streak.”
