The Orioles competed at home on Thursday, Sept. 10, with the high school girls coming away in first place with a score of 23, while the boys took second with a score of 44.
Top ten finishes for the high school girls included Vaida Chwala in first with a Tim of 22:15.11, Mariah Wehlingin in fourth with 22:40.34, Aaliyah Prissel in fifth with 22:55.36, Lucy Wundrow in sixth with 23:13.67. Haylee Shakal took twelfth with a time of 26:13.02, while Edlyn Wundrow took 17th with a time of 27:57.42. Lillian Fitzl finished 20th with a time of 28:26.20,
High school girls junior varsity saw Koraline Pennal finish fourth with 28:50.53, Annelysse Kramschuster finished seventh with 30:00.55, and Maiyah Mahr finish eighth with 30:18.45.
As for the high school boys, John Smit took first with a time of 17:55.96, while Hunter Ogle took third with a time of 18:32.08. Cameron Natzke finished seventh with a time of 19:11.67, while Lance Kely finished seventeenth with a time of 21:42.18. Zander Kelly finished 23rd with a time of 22:29.67, while Seth Lilla finished 25th with a time of 22:56.89. Ben Henderson finished 32nd with a time of 27:10.83.
As for the boys junior varsity, Finn Cody finished first with a time of 24:00.60, while Logan Stuttgen finished fourth with a time of 24:16.11.
The middle school boys finished second with an average time of 14:12 and score of 35, while the middle school girls finished fourth overall with an average time of 17:12 and score of 84.
At Colby two days later, the girls won both team competitions while John Smit let the boys to a first place finish as a team, also placing first individually at Colby.
Orioles coach Nick Mahr shared more after the results.
“It was a great showing from our team both days,” he commented, “On Saturday the girls beat a very good team from Augusta who is ranked in the state and the boys took first place without one of our top runners. Their times are coming down and putting us in the running as one of the top teams in the Cloverbelt.”
The Orioles next races are Sept. 15 at Levis Mound and Sept. 22 at Cadott.
