Oriole girls varsity defeats Flambeau 55 – 40 in home game

Defending the nest. That’s the best way to describe the game last Thursday between the Stanley-Boyd Orioles and Flambeau Falcons at home, where the Lady Orioles came away victorious with a 55 – 40 victory over their visiting opponents.

Thursday’s game brings the record for the Oriole girls varsity this year to 3 -4 overall and 1 – 2 in Conference, with a game against Osseo-Fairchild Thunder this Thursday, Jan. 5, also at home.

As to the game against Flambeau, the Orioles finished the first half ahead 25 – 10 against the Falcons, the Falcons efforts to match the second with a score of 30 met by renewed determination as the Orioles also scored 30, maintaining their first half lead to the end.

As to the first half, Stanley-Boyd’s Tina Benson sank two three-pointers, while Aaliyah Allard also sank a three pointer and Mallory Eslinger made a two pointer. Lauren Potaczek contributed a two-pointer and three free throws to the score tally, while Teagen Becker made four free throws and a three pointer in the first. Emme Felmlee scored a two-pointer, while overall team fouls for the first half tallied at seven as opposed to six for the Falcons.

Opening the second half, the score tally saw Becker make two three-pointers and a pair of two-pointers, while Felmlee made four two-pointers for the Orioles. Potaczek came in with three two-pointers and one free throw, while Allard contributed a two-pointer and Benson made a free throw, overall team fouls kept to seven for the second half as well. When all was said and done the Lady Orioles had flown high over the Falcons 55 – 40, with their next match against Osseo-Fairchild Thursday Jan. 5, followed by agame against Fall Creek Jan. 10.

Game start for both games is 7:15 p.m.
