The Stanley-Boyd Boys Golf squad turned in a solid showing at Bloomer , led by a strong performance from junior Carsen Woodcock.
Woodcock paced Stanley-Boyd with an 18-hole score of 81, finishing 12th overall in a competitive field.
Derrick Lato, a sophomore, followed with an 84 to place 24th overall, continuing to provide consistency in the middle of the lineup. Brenner Myers, also a junior, carded an 88 and finished tied for 38th, while senior Ryan Starck rounded out the varsity group with a 92, placing 55th.
The results reflect a team still working toward lower scores as the season progresses, with Woodcock setting the pace and the rest of the lineup showing flashes of potential.
Stanley-Boyd will look to tighten up its scoring and climb the standings in upcoming meets as the conference schedule continues.
Orioles head varsity golf coach Devon Wenndt shared more after results.
“Long story short, I think the boys are rounding into form quite nicely,” he said. “Although we came up a bit shy of Bloomer and one shot behind Cadott, all of our boys kept a positive mindset the entire way through. What impressed me even more was our most recent tournament: Friday’s Bloomer Invitational. Not a single S-B golfer had even remotely his best stuff on a cold and windy day, and much of the day was spent frustrated over substandard play. And yet, at the end of the day, we shot our best team score for the year (345) and finished in the top quarter of a pretty deep field. Things are improving, and we look to capitalize on that momentum with three 18-hole invites this week (Chippewa Valley Championship on Monday at Eau Claire Golf and Country Club, Cloverbelt Conference 18-hole Invite on Tuesday at RiverEdge Marshfield, Green Devil Drive on Thursday at Northern Bay in Arkdale). Our season goals are still in front of us (put ourselves in position to compete for a conference title, and advance as a team out of the WIAA Regional), and we are playing better golf now than we were a month ago. Lots to be excited about.”
The Orioles now compete Thursday, May 7 at Northern Bay Golf Course. Match start time is 9:00 a.m.
