The Oriole varsity golf season is closing fast . Playing Whispering Pines on Monday, May 11, the Oriels placed seventh, placing behind Holmen and McDonell-Regis with a score of 351.
Leading the Orioles at Whispering Pines was Carsen Woodcock with an 85, followed by Brenner Myers with a 91. Derrick Lato carded a 93, while Ryan Starck finished with a 91. Connor Goebel carded an 84, while Dylan Lewallen finished with 103.
Orioles head varsity golf coach Devon Wenndt shared more on the season last week.
“It’s always an honor to host teams from the area and showcase the magnificent golf course at Whispering Pines,” he said. “This year’s invitational featured 17 teams and was won by Bloomer with a team score of 306. Landon Trainor, a freshman from Bloomer, was the match medalist, shooting even par 72. Cadott had a strong 4th-place showing, while S-B finished 7th. Most of the Cloverbelt teams are largely finished with their regular seasons at this point, and are out of action until the Cloverbelt Conference Championship next Tuesday, May 19,” he said of Skyline Golf Course in Black River Falls, 9 a.m. “There is still a lot to be decided, and the points structure of the tournament allows for a lot of volatility in both the team and individual end-of-year standings. After that, it’s on to the WIAA tournament series. S-B will compete at Trempeleau Mountain Golf Club (Tuesday 5/26, 9 a.m.). The season-long goal was to be in the thick of things once this time of year came around, and we have certainly achieved that. If we play like we’re capable in the next 2 weeks, we will absolutely be rewarded for it. That’s the beauty of golf, it’s the most democratic sport there is. Equitable playing fields, self-governance of the rules, and the results will objectively tell you who was playing the best that day.”
