The Orioles varsity softball season starts Thursday April 2 at St. Croix Central.
Oriole varsity girls head softball coach Kim Goettl shared more on how things are shaping up.
“One week of practice and things are looking strong for us!” she said. “We are excited to field a full Varsity and JV team again this year. We have 2 seniors returning to the squad: catcher Bailey Sikora and outfielder Ava Prahl. Also returning along with 1st team all conference Sikora is Sophomore pitcher Caitlen Ketterhagen. She carried the team in the circle and is looking to have another outstanding season. Second team All-Conference Junior 3rd baseman Kelly Lew and Sophomore middle infielder Kendall Sikora will anchor the infield. Honorable Mention Junior Dannea Wundrow will be strong again. Our outfield didn’t get the formal recognition last year that they deserve but I’m looking for them to be solid led by center fielder Junior Nevaeh Walters. New faces on the field predicated to make a positive addition are Junior Ella Nitz coming off an injury and Freshman Amanda Lew.
As for team goals, Goettl said the team was looking for top of conference.
“We have high goals last year with being in the top half of a tough conference. We came out at 2nd with Fall Creek taking the top and taking us out in the Regional final. We are looking for the top of the conference this year!”
