The Track and Field season is officially underway at Stanley-Boyd
Starting with a two day meet Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22 at Stevens Point, the Orioles headed to Stout Friday, March 28. With Stevens Point largely a warmup as the season gets underway, results from Stout show podium finishes for junior Macie LaGrander and freshman Jocelyn Hager. LaGrander placed first in the long jump with a leap of 15-9.25, while Hager placed second in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.66, third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.66, and fourth in the triple jump with a length of 32-7.
“She is jumping very well and picking up where we left off last year,” Head Coach Bob Seidl said of LaGrander. “This may in fact be her best event this track season. “
Seidl had praise for Hager as well.
“She is entering high school track and field with some very impressive times and distances. She may be one to watch.”
As for notable finishes among the boys at Stout, Carson Hodowanic placed eighth in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.79, close to the performance of Madden Mahr last year. Also notable for boys finishes was Jesse Allard, who missed placing due to number of high jump attempts but improved by four inches over last season with 5-10.
“He would have cleared 6-0 with the last jump he made,” Coach Seidl said. “His jumping technique has improved a lot and he returns this year as the Conference Champion in the high Jump.”
“We have a number of talented athletes on the boys and girls track teams. The Northern Badger Track meet is very big with a lot of large schools from Wisconsin and Minnesota. It was very competitive. It’s important to keep that in mind this early in the season. Our athletes know that they have to work hard to gain recognition.”
Coach Seidl went on to give an overview of the track and field team this year.
“Track and Field season is upon us and we are organizing our teams for the upcoming year,” he said. “The girls return 11 letter winners and have over 30 athletes out for the 2025 track season. We didn’t lose any seniors to graduation and so our coaching staff is more optimistic this season will be stronger than last. We have large enough numbers to fill all of our events and compete with other Western Cloverbelt teams for our conference title. Fall Creek and Bloomer look to be our toughest opponents. With a lot of young inexperienced talent, we hope to be competitive and make a run for the conference title by mid-May. Outstanding athletes that are returning this year are Syleen Seichter, Ady Gustafson, and Addy Mahr. juniors Lula Chwala and Macie LaGrander are also expected to contribute in a big way. With a lot of hard work, the girls team could have a successful season. The DII regional and sectional meets look tough and our girls will have to set high goals and work to achieve them.”
As for the boys, Seidl said that, “the boys team will have a strong field of top sprinters and field athletes for the 2025 track season. Madden Mahr is leading the way as a top sprinter from central WI. He currently holds the school’s 200 meter record (22.22) and is looking to break more this season. Madden is supported by seniors Jake LaGrander, Rudy Kletsch, Cole Brenner, and junior Carson Hodowanic. They hope to return to La Crosse in the 4x200 meter relay. Our team has a lot of speed and 13 returning letter winners who will try to repeat as Conference and Regional champions. Once again, Fall creek looks to be our toughest rival for a conference title. We lost a large number of seniors to graduation and we will need underclassmen to step up and improve to be competitive. Our Field Event performance will determine how well we do as a team by late May.”
