Oriole Tracksters compete at Wausau Indoor Invite

The Stanley-Boyd track and field team opened their season at the Wausau Indoor Invite with a mix of strong performances, developing depth and clear signs of potential for the spring ahead.
The Orioles’ girls team finished seventh out of 13 teams in a competitive meet, though Macie LaGrander was absent due to sore shins.
Leading the charge for the girl’s team was Jocelyn Hager, who turned in a dominant all-around performance to earn Most Valuable Track Athlete honors for the meet. Hager captured first place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.46 and added three runner-up finishes in the 55-meter dash, triple jump, and the 4x145-meter relay.
Her ability to contribute across multiple events highlighted both her versatility and the team’s strength in sprints and relays. With nearly the entire roster competing, Stanley-Boyd showed encouraging depth across all areas of the meet, including distance races and field events.
“The girls ran very well today,” Orioles varsity head track coach Robert Seidl said. “We had almost the entire team competing and the girls ran well in the sprints, relays, distance events. We also placed well in most of the field events. This team has potential to have a very successful season.”
On the boys side meanwhile, Stanley-Boyd finished 11th, the result reflecting both a smaller roster and key absences due to injury. Despite those challenges, distance runner John Smit emerged as a major bright spot, winning the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:11.26.
Smit’s victory not only stood out on the results sheet but also signaled the emergence of a promising young distance runner for the Orioles.
“John is really running really well as a freshman distance runner,” Coach Seidl said. “I’m looking forward to seeing him compete on a 400-meter track outdoors.”
With limited numbers and several athletes sidelined, the boys team is taking a strategic approach early in the season, focusing on individual development while working toward full strength. Seidl said some of the boys were out due to injuries.
“The boys have a few kids out due to injuries and our numbers are small to begin with,” he said. “We are really concentrating on individual events more than team scores. We need to get back to full strength without injuries. That is our focus right now.”
The team now prepares for a home meet Friday, April 24 at Stanley-Boyd. Start time for the meet is 4:00 p.m.
