It was a bright, warm and sunshiny day at Chetek-Weyerhauser Saturday when the Stanley-Boyd Orioles faced off against the Chetek-Weyerhauser Bulldogs. With fans from both sides at the ball field the Orioles walked off with a win 7 – 6, having come off a game Tuesday against Eleva-Strum on the losing end 10 – 4. Saturday’s game evened the record 1 – 1 for the present. Coach Ryan Sturm shared his thoughts on team cohesion and how things were going so far this season after the game.
“As for our team we are young and getting better,” Sturm said. “I love how we support each other and my players enjoy being around each other. We need to become more consistent hitting and throwing strikes. We have a chance to be competitive in every game this year and beat anyone if we play our best.”
Although victorious in Saturday’s game, things had started out somewhat less auspiciously, with Chetek-Weyeerhauser scoring a run in the first inning, before Stanley turned things around with two in the second.
With the Bulldogs coming back to score two runs in the third, the Orioles answered with a whopping five runs in the fourth, the Bulldogs unable to overcome Stanley- Boyd’s lead. The Orioles next play Tuesday against Regis at Oriole Park, the game being rescheduled from April 8.
