The Oriole boys varsity football team headed to Osseo Friday, Sept. 26, coming away with a hard fought win 32-27. Scoring touchdowns for the Orioles Friday were Caleb Westrom, Fisher Pischke, and Gunnar Goettl, with Jesse Allard connecting for some extra points. Quarter by quarter scores were 7-7 tie at the end of first, 26-14 Orioles at the half, 26-21 Orioles at the end of the third quarter, and 32-27 for the final, a team effort bringing home the win.
Orioles Head Football Coach Brody Mahr shared thoughts after the game.
“It was one of those games where it took everyone,” he said. “We definitely had some challenges at different points, but the guys didn’t back down and kept fighting. Osseo Fairchild had some playmakers at receiver and came in wanting to throw it to open up the run, so we had to weather a few shots and adjust.
“Our kids answered with a true team effort, our offensive line and our run game carried us on the late drive to take the lead, and then the defense finished it off with a big stop when it mattered. Proud of how our whole group stepped up and closed it out.”
The Orioles next play Neillsville-Granton on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 1:00 p.m. in Neillsville, after which they face Regis at home Friday, Oct. 10.
