It’s almost December, and that means wrestling season.
Starting the current year Thursday, Nov. 30 at Athens before heading off to Black River Falls for the invite Saturday, the Orioles will field 17 athletes in 14 weight classes. Orioles head coach Greg Burzynski gave the 411 when reached for comment.
“We start our season on Thursday, November 30th at Athens and will wrestle Athens and Chequamegon and then on Saturday at BRF,” he said. “We should be close to filling all 14 weight classes this season with 17 athletes wrestling this year. We have had 8 practices so far and I have been impressed by the work ethic I have seen out of our team. They practice hard and are more than willing to help each other out when needed. We have a strong trio of seniors and I am excited to see what they can do this season.’”
As to the seniors, Burzynski shared the following.
“Breckin is coming off his second straight state tournament appearance and has put a lot of time on the wrestling mat this off-season. Troy and Landen are looking very good in the room so far as well. We also have a returning sectional qualifier in Willy. He will be making the move up to heavyweight this season and has looked solid so far.”
With that being said, the matchup at Athens is Thursday, Nov. 30 at 7:00 p.m.
