In a hard fought match set that saw much uncertainty as the third set closed, the Stanley- Boyd Oriole girls varsity volleyball team clinched a win against Abbotsford to win the regional championship, at Stanley-Boyd.
The Saturday contest saw Stanley-Boyd come away with scores of 25 – 18, 25 – 17, and 25 – 23, the result of hard work and game insight.
“We captured a regional championship against Abbotsford because this team has figured out how to win,” Coach Rainy Antolak said of the Stanley-Boyd Orioles varsity volleyball after its win Saturday to advance in the brackets. “The team set goals at the beginning of our season, and they are committed to improving and to winning,” Antolak went on. “The girls completely understand the mental and physical aspects needed to make a deep playoff run, and they are excited to continue their season.”
The Saturday contest against Abbotsford, meanwhile, saw team member Kayte LIcht make 21 attack attempts with three kills, while Emily Brenner had 39 attempts and 21 kills. Lily Hoel made 24 attempts and had 13 kills.
Sierra Close, Sophia Anderson, Leslie Derks, and Avery Vait contributed to the score as well.
In terms of serve attempts Licht led the way with 17, while Tina Benson had 12. Vait made 11 along with Hoel and Kaden Drehmel each making 10.
Emily Brenner had seven total in the match against Abbotsford, including one ace.
Saturday’s victory came on the heels of wins against Princeton/Green Lake on Tuesday and Neillsville on Thursday, both of which were hard fought–especially as each opponent saw its chances of winning close out. So what went in to Saturday’s win in general terms and where to next?
