Overall the boys had a solid day as our varsity wrestled well and our JV got some good mat time.”

Up next:

The Orioles next wrestle Friday, Dec. 27 at the LaCrosse Bistate Classic. Start time is 9:00 a.m.

The wrestling season now in full swing, the Orioles traveled to the Barron Invitational at Barron, Dec. 14, taking home several individual medals.
Taking first for the girls team were Koraline Pennala and Lillian Fitzl in the 114 and 126 pound weight classes respectively, Sierra Marten taking third in the 126 pound weight class. The Orioles girls team placed sixth overall at Barron with 35.0 team points.
As for the boys at Barron, returning state qualifier Willy Graham took first in the boys 285 pound weight class, Dylan Seichter and Alex Willaims putting in impressive performances as well in the boys 165 and 190 pound weight classes respectively. Seichter and Williams both placed third, defeating sectional qualifiers from 2024. The Orioles boys team also placed sixth at Barron with 56.0 team point, with Varsity Wrestling Head Coach Jake Fitzsimmons sharing thoughts once the results were in.
“We wrestled well at Barron and fixed some of our mistakes from last week,” Fitzsimmons said. “Willy took first and pinned a tough Hayward kid that he had lost to in the past. Dylan Seichter and Alex Williams both impressed by beating sectional qualifiers from last year in their third place matches with Dylan winning by pin. Candin Yeager took fourth place and has had some really close matches this year against tough opponents. Hunter Gadke is a new wrestler this year and is wrestling really tough for us and continues to beat wrestlers with much more experience than him. Ryan Bowe and Kyle Pahl led the JV with second and third place finishes. Overall the boys had a solid day as our varsity wrestled well and our JV got some good mat time.”
The girls wrestling team also came in for praise from Fitzsimmons.
“The girls really impressed with two girls taking first in Koraline Pennala and Lillian Fitzl,” he said. “Lillian even pinned a returning state qualifier. Sierra Marten took third in a tough weight class. Nevaeh Walters went 2-1 and her only loss was to the champion of the weight class. Ziva Blair wrestled well and got her first win as an Oriole.”
