Stanley-Boyd competed at the Bi-State tournament at La Crosse last Thursday and Friday, coming away 19th of 26 teams in Division 2. Coach Greg Burzynski gave some thoughts after the results were in.
“Bi-State is a two-day tournament held at the LaCrosse Center,” he said. “We wrestled from 9-4:30 and again from 7-10 on Thursday. Friday, we were at the tournament from 9-2. It is a couple of long days with some very tough competition between 70 teams from Wisconsin and Minnesota. For example, 132 had 17 state qualifiers, 120 had 12, 145 had 13. It is rare to see that good of competition all in one place.”
As to overall tournament results, Burzynski was upbeat. “As a team, we had some good wins,” he said. “Dale Sayles, Justin McManus, Breckin Burzynski, Troy Trevino, Willy Graham, and Damien Seichter all won at least one match. Breckin beat a state qualifier 17-6. Troy and Damien both joined Breckin and Willy in the evening session of the tournament. We made some mistakes that are definitely things we can fix both in technique and match awareness.”
