With wrestling for the 2023-24 season drawing to a close, the Orioles will head to Medford on Saturday, Feb. 10 for a D2 regional competition.
Looking ahead to the Medford regional, Orioles head coach Greg Burzynski said that, “I anticipate getting several athletes to the sectional tournament. As long as we continue to wrestle like we have been recently, we will have a good tournament up in Medford. The top four wrestlers (there are 13 teams in the regional) in the regional earn the opportunity to wrestle in the sectional the following week in Tomahawk.”
Just recently, meanwhile, the Orioles competed both at home against three opponents, as well as at the Cloverbelt Conference Tournament.
With regard to competition earlier at Stanley, results for matches against Thorp/Owen-Withee included Willy Graham winning by fall (0:46) over Jordan Wullf in the heavyweight division, while Troy Trevino won by fall (2:56) over Steven Williams. Breckin Burzynski took a forfeit, along with Anna Krizan, Landen Hoel, Candin Yeager, Darrin Dorn, and Brodric Westrom, each in their respective weight classes.
Moving to matches against Abbotsford/Colby,, Burzynski won by fall (1:11) over Ayden Michlig in the 138 point weight class, while Yeager prevailed over Satey Christian by fall (2:28) in the 150 pound weight class. Trevino lost by decision (7-6) to Tristen Smazal in the 126-pound weight class, while Dorn lost by fall (3:03) to Alix Colby in the 132 pound weight class.

Closing out the recap from Stanley with results against McDonell Catholic/Elk Mound, Hoel won by fall (1:28) over Ford Hay of McDonell Catholic/Elk Mound in the 150 pound weight class, with Burzynski picking up a win by fall (1:26) over Chelsea Nicola of McDonell/ Catholic Elk Mound. Krizan won by Decision (6-2) over McKenzie Simonson of Elk Mound in the 113 pound weight class, with Dorn prevailing by fall (1:02) over Luca Burcaw of McDonell/Elk Mound , Yeager winning by fall (1:10) over Isabella Giza
Trevino, Graham, Jesse Baxter and Aaron Sturm took forfeits in their respective weight classes against the Chippewa Falls school.
As to the Cloverbelt Conference Tournament following competition at Stanley, Orioles head coach Greg Burzynski had this to say.
“We had six finalists with Troy and Willy bringing home the gold,” Burzynski shared. “Breckin, Landen, Candin, and Dylan all took second.”
