The Oriole varsity wrestling squad headed to Black River Falls Saturday, Dec. 7 for the start of the wrestling season. Orioles Head Wrestling Coach Jake Fitzsimmons, taking over this year from Greg Burzynski, shared thoughts after the results were in.
“Black River Falls was only a varsity tournament and we were missing some guys,” Fitzsimmons said. “I thought we wrestled better as a team than our results showed as we lost some close matches. Aaron Sturm led us with a third place finish. He was aggressive and showed real improvement from last season. Candin Yeager and Dredyn Arneson both took fourth and wrestled well, but lost close matches at the end. Alex Williams took fifth and wrestled extremely well. Alex is back out for the first time since middle school. We wrestle at Chetek on Tuesday in a tri meet, and then wrestle at Barron on Saturday. After that we have our home tournament on Friday, December 20th. Our varsity, JV, and girls wrestlers will all get matches at these events. I am looking forward to watching the entire team compete and keep making progress.”
The Orioles compete in a wrestling invitational at Barron High School Saturday, Dec. 14 at 9:00 a.m.
