The Stanley-Boyd varsity baseball team battled through a challenging stretch of games April 23–24, facing tough competition in McDonell and Gilman, but continued to show effort, resilience, and promising individual performances along the way. Finishing with a 14-4 loss against McDonell, the Orioles nonetheless worked to put together a solid offensive showing with six hits, led by Landon Ewer’s 2-for-3 day at the plate with a run scored. Koebin Wundrow provided a big spark with a hit and a team-high three RBIs, while Carter Weltzin added a hit and an RBI of his own. Deven Parker and Bentley Shilts also contributed hits, and the Orioles stayed aggressive on the bases with steals from Grant Dusick, Wundrow, and Ewer.
The following day against Gilman, Stanley-Boyd continued to compete despite a 12–1 final. The Orioles collected four hits, with Wundrow again leading the way by going 1-for-2 and scoring the team’s lone run. Porter Goettl and Keaton Bruech each added hits, and Aaron Lew drove in the team’s run. The Orioles showed discipline at the plate with a walk from Weltzin and applied pressure on the base paths with steals from Ewer and Ryan Bowe. On the mound, Grant Dusick turned in a strong relief performance, striking out five over 2.2 innings while allowing just two runs.
Orioles varsity head baseball coach Ryan Sturm shared more after results.
“While last week didn’t go our way due to absences and some poor play, we are incredibly proud of the young players who stepped up and played for the first time,” he said. “We’re leaning into our motto of ‘Have Joy and Compete’ as we head into this next stretch of tough games. The goal is simple: improve every week, play for each other, and get back in the win column. We appreciate the community’s support as we work toward a strong finish.”

With a game against Augusta on Monday rescheduled to May 11 and an away game after press time at Elk Mound, the Orioles play Elk Mound at home on Thursday, April 30. Game start is 5:00 p.m.
