The Oriole boys varsity met Regis at Regis on Thursday, Jan. 22, coming away with a 60-63 win against the Ramblers. Rescheduled from Friday on account of weather, the Thursday game served as a rematch for one played earlier this year that ended in a loss, the Orioles learning to turn things around for a win.
Orioles varsity head basketball coach Dakota Nichols shared more after the game.
“We made way too many mistakes the first time around, giving up 27 points off of turnovers,” he said of earlier this year.
“We made an adjustment to our press break and set expectations on how we wanted to play defense. The boys did a tremendous job on executing the game plan. We still had too many turnovers, however, we shot the ball 60% from the field and limited their second chance opportunities. This was a big win for our team, and I’m proud of how well they played together and finished the game at the end.”
Top scorers in Thursday’s game against Regis were Charlie Hoel with 24 points and eight rebounds, Brenner Myers with 13 points and four assists, Brayten Mallo with nine points and four rebounds, and Josiah Demske with nine points and 13 rebounds.
Earlier last week the Orioles faced McDonell on Tuesday, Jan. 21, coming away with a 65-48 win against the Macks. Top point scorers for the game against McDonell include Hoel with 20 points, Myers with 16, Mallo with 10, Demske and Troy Haas with nine each, and Kaiden Parker with a free throw.
Now 12-1 overall and 5-1 in conference, the Orioles play Fall Creek at Stanley-Boyd Thursday, Jan. 29. Game start is 7:00 p.m.
