The Orioles girls golf season is over.
Competing at Spooner in the stroke play sectional on Monday, Oct. 6, the Orioles girls golf team put in a collective score of 415, coming in ninth behind Bloomer with 414. Allie Goodman scored a 95, McKaila Simon scored 107, Caitlen Ketterhagen scored 107, Vivian Morrow scored 106, and Emily Kletsch scored 120.
Orioles Head Girls Golf Coach Devon Wenndt shared more on results from the earlier competition at Barron Oct. 1, where Stanley-Boyd placed second with a score of 393, between Colfax/Elk Mound and Bloomer.
“Barron was a nice little culmination of all the hard work put in by our young ladies this year,” he said. “Since the start of the season, the stated goal for this team has been to advance to the WIAA Sectional as a team, and they came through in fantastic fashion. Several of our girls shot season-best 18 hole scores (Allie Goodman 92, Caitlen Ketterhagen 101, Vivian Morrow 102), and all of them played smart golf down the stretch. When we missed out on this opportunity by three strokes last year, it was a bit of a gut punch. I think the ladies who experienced that a year ago let that simmer, drew motivation from that. Allie and McKaila Simon, especially. Coach Gustafson and I could not be more proud of them, and no matter the result of today’s Sectional round in Spooner, the girls will walk those fairways with a sense of accomplishment. 2017 was the last time that we were able to bring the entire team to Sectionals. Let’s hope this becomes a more regular occurrence.”
