The Orioles took to the road this past week, competing in the conference tournament Friday, Feb. 7 at Spencer, moved up for a Saturday snowstorm.
Coming out of competition the Orioles placed fifth of nine teams, with 115.5 team points.
Orioles Head Coach Jake Fitzsimmons shared more after results were in.
“This was the best we have looked as a team all season,” he said. “Willy Graham took 1st at 285 and in his 3 matches he wrestled a total of 90 seconds. Candin Yeager at 157 was all conference and took 2nd. Brody Westrom-165, Dylan Seicther-190, and Dredyn Arneson-215 all took 3rd place. Brody wrestled extremely well beating 2 wrestlers who had beat him earlier in the year. We were missing 2 starters due to illness and still took 5th as a team. On the girls side Lillian Fitzl took 1st place at 132, Nevaeh Walters took 2nd at 138, and Koraline Pennala took 3rd at 107. We need to get healthier for regionals, but I am extremely proud of the wrestlers. Their hard work and focus on details is paying off. At regionals the top 4 advance on to sectionals and we are hoping to have a good showing and qualify a good group.”
The Orioles now head to regionals Saturday, Feb. 15 at Edgar, the action starting at 10:00 a.m.
