Competing at the Midwest Indoor Championship at River Falls on Saturday April 6, the Orioles varsity track team placed fourth for the boys, and eleventh for the girls. Orioles head coach Robert Seidl shared more after results were in.
"This was the first time that we have ever competed at the River Falls Midwest championship,” he said. “There were teams from the western part of WI and many large schools from the Twin Cities MN area."
As to the boys team, Seidl said that Madden Mahr continues to dominate, taking 2nd in the 60 meter, first in the 200 meter, and fourth in the long jump, hitting 20’2” for the first time.
“He really did well and continues to improve,” Seidl said.
Also in boys team results, Lucas Walker is back in stride and competing in distance, with Seidl saying he thinks Walker will break the two-minute barrier in the 800 meter when he gets outside.
As to boys relay, Seidl said they had excelled.
“The boys also won the 4x200 meter relay and their time in excellent for an indoor track,” he said, taking first with a time of 1:34.36. The sprinters had also done well.
"Our boys' sprinters have excelled at the indoor meets,” Seidl said. “We are really eager to get outside and see how we compete.”
As to the girls, Seidl said other school activities impacted having a full team.
"We didn't have a complete team competing because of other school activities on Saturday,” he said.
“But we did have some good performances, especially in the horizontal jumps."
Saying the girls team was young and continued to improve, Seidl made mention of Macie LaGrander and Lula Chwala in team performance.
“Macie LaGrander had a very good day jumping 15'2.75 in the long jump and 30' 11.75" ,” taking sixth in both.
As for Chwala, Seidl said that, “Lula Chwala jumped 31' 3.75" in the triple jump and ran 10.6 in the 60m hurdles,” taking fifth in both events.
