The Orioles closed their regular season Friday in style, defeating the Durand-Arkansaw Panthers 56-0. They now head into the postseason playoffs with a 7-1 regular season record. Orioles Head Football Coach Jeff Koenig shared thoughts after the score was final.
“Our defense did a great job of limiting Durand’s opportunities,” he said. “They kind of threw everything at us but our players did a great job of adjusting on the fly and preventing them from scoring. The offense was firing on all cylinders as we only ran 35 plays but had a lot of yards and points.”
“As we prepare for Spooner, they will be a tough opponent but that’s playoff football. Everyone we play the rest of the season is a good team. We hope to keep improving and to play better each week.”
Starting out strong in the first quarter, the Orioles scored two touchdowns and a two point conversion run, Madden Mahr running for a 94-yard gain and Rudy Kletsch logging a 4-yard touchdown. Alex Williams scored the two point conversion run.
Opening the second quarter with a 14 point lead, the Orioles extended this with a touchdown on pass by Carter Isenberger to Kletsch with extra point by Jesse Allard, bringing the point total to 21-0 Orioles.
The Orioles widened this lead with a touchdown by Williams and extra point by Allard, closing the half with a touchdown pass from Isenberger to Mahr and two point conversion from Isenberger to Cole Brenner to bring things to 36-0 Orioles.
The third quarter saw further advance, with Carson Hodowanic running for a 54-yard touchdown followed by a touchdown from Kletsch and extra point by Allard.
The Orioles closed out the game in fourth quarter with a touchdown pass from Isenberger to Brody Westrom for a 42-yard gain followed by an extra point from Allard, bringing the score to 56-0 Orioles.
The Orioles play their first postseason game Friday, Oct. 25 against Spooner at Oriole Park. Game start time is 7 p.m.
