Orioles defeat Elk Mound 24-21

On to Northwestern, east of Superior. In a must win game for having a chance at the postseason. The S-B Orioles came together, defeating Elk Mound 24-21 at Oriole Park.

The defeat of the Mounders Friday brings the team record 4-5 overall and 3-4 in the Cloverbelt. Orioles head coach Jeff Koenig had thoughts to share on the game after the result.

“I’m happy for our seniors,” he shared.

“They were able to win their last home game and extend their season. The team fought to the end and had another exciting finish. We had a lot of people step up and make plays on Friday.”

Kicking things off Friday with a scoreless first quarter, things picked up in the second as senior Simon Polman made a 36-yard field kick to put points on the board, 3-0.

With a touchdown by Elk Mound followed with a two point conversion to bring the score 8-3 Mounders, a touchdown by Landon Kar- len following a downfield return run by Mad –

den Mahr brought the score 9-8 Orioles as the third quarter opened.

Not content to let things stay as they were, Elk Mound went for another touchdown, while a failed two point conversion by the Mounders left the score 14-9 Elk Mound.

Following a touchdown and extra point, the gap widened to 21-9 in Elk Mound’s favor, while a touchdown by Cole Brenner off a pass from Logan Burzynski brought things 16-21, following an extra point by Polman Opening the fourth quarter with a five point deficit, the Orioles were able to close the gap with a touchdown and two point conversion— both by Burzynski—thus bringing the final score Friday night 24-21 in the Ori oles favor.

The Orioles next play at Northwestern High School Friday, located at 4751 County Road F, in Maple Wisconsin. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
