Orioles defeat Mounders 39-29 in away game Friday

Team moves to third in conference as preparations made for home game against Durand-Arkansaw Oct. 13

oon to face the Durand-Arkansaw Panthers at Oriole Park for their final regular season game, the Oriole varsity added a win to its record Friday, Oct. 6, besting the Elk Mound Mounders 39-29 in an away game at Elk Mound.

Taking to the field in the first quarter, the Orioles were one point behind after the first quarter and two points behind at half, the game score 15-13 in Elk Mound’s favor. Coming back after halftime, the Oriole varsity scored 13 points to 7 for the Mounters in the third quarter, scoring an additional 7 while keeping Elk Mound away from the goal in the fourth. When all was said and done the third quarter and steady fourth gave the Orioles what they needed to win, now placed third in the conference as they prepare to meet the Panthers.

In game stats for the night at Elk Mound, meanwhile, the Orioles saw Landon Karlen and Carter Isenberger add passing yards, with Karlen putting in 2 and Isenberger putting in 334 for the night,

As to rushing the stats were spread out, with Alex Williams making 3 yards, Madden Mahr going for 5, Karlen going for 127, Isenberger for 2, Jake LaGrander for 15 and Rudy Kletsch for 57, brining the game total to 2098 rushing yards for the Orioles.

In receiving the night totaled 336 yards for Stanley-Boyd, with Mahr marking 243, Kletsch 49, Grant Dusick 11, and the balance spread out among LaGrander, Karlen, and Williams.

On the Defense and punt side, Carson Hodowanic made an interception while Mahr punted a return, the stats for kick returning seeing Mahr log 27 yards and Karlen 39, for a total of 66.

In punting, Dusick made 4 punts for a total of 91 yards averaging 22.8.

Jesse Allard made three of three for extra points attempted, with Oriole Head Football Coach Jeff Koenig later sharing his thoughts on how things went for the night.

“Elk Mound usually plays their best football against us and this year was no exception,” Koenig said. “Our defense really made some key stops in the second half to help make the difference in the game.  Our offense has been able to get a lot of explosive players involved in the game.” As to the future, Koenig said that, “We need to focus on getting better each week.  The win qualifies us for the playoffs but we have a talented Durand team to focus on for this week.”

The game against Durand-Arkansaw takes place at Oriole Park Friday, Oct. 13. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.
