Currently ranked third in the conference, the Oriole boys varsity met Rib Lake Tuesday, Dec. 10, coming away with a 72-51 victory. The Orioles followed up their win against Rib Lake with a win against Fall Creek 61-58,
Orioles Head Basketball Coach Dakota Nichols shared thoughts after the score was tallied.
“Our all-around defense has led to our 4-1 start,” he said. “Nobody has scored 60 points on us yet, and I give the kids a lot of credit on the effort level they give on defense. We are then able to attack in transition and get easier scoring opportunities. We have been balanced on offense. In our first five games, we’ve had four different leading scorers. Multiple guys are contributing, and we do a great job of getting each other open.”
Nichols also said the team was unselfish.
“One thing that sticks out to me is how unselfish this team is,” he said. “We’ve had three different leading scorers in our first three games, and had contributions from eight to 10 different players depending on the night. Guys are encouraging each other and have been very positive even when mistakes occur. We’ve had a “next play” mentality with this younger team, knowing that some mistakes will happen. It’s early yet, and we know there’s a lot of room for growth and development, but I’m excited to watch the confidence of the kids continue to grow with each game.”
Now with a 4-1 record overall, the Orioles face Cadott at Stanley-Boyd Thursday, Dec. 19. Game start is 7:15 p.m.
