Traveling to Cadott on Friday, August 29, the Orioles fell to the Hornets 48-6, Josiah Demske making a touchdown in the first quarter.
Orioles Head Football Coach Brody Mahr shared more on how things went Friday after the game finish.
“It was a tough night for us, no question about it,” he said. “We came out strong early but made some mental mistakes that really hurt us. Against a good rival, those mistakes turned into big plays and turnovers, and we just couldn’t recover. We’re an extremely young and inexperienced group right now, so some growing pains are to be expected, but we’re determined to use these moments to get better.
“As I tell the players, there are only two outcomes from a game: you either win, or you learn. We learned a lot on Friday. We saw where we need to be sharper mentally, how important execution is, and how quickly things can swing against a good team. Those are lessons that will make us stronger in the long run.
“To turn things around, we’ve got to keep working at the fundamentals: blocking, tackling, ball security and play with more confidence and composure. We’re committed to getting better every day, and I’m proud of how our kids are responding.”
Orioles season stats thus far include 152 passing yards, 122 rushing years, 152 receiving yards. With 29 yards in kick returns, 132 kicking yards, and 244 punting yards, the Orioles play the Durand-Arkansaw Panthers at Oriole Park on Friday, Sept. 5. Game start is 7:00 p.m.
