The Orioles varsity traveled to Colby to meet the Hornets Friday, racking up touchdowns before a turnaround late in the game saw Colby pull ahead 39-22.
Game highlights included touchdowns by Jesse Allard, Max Acker and Kaynen Steinbach, with Allard also making an interception and field goal. Stanley-Boyd added two points with a safety in the first quarter, leading to a score of 22-0 in the Orioles favor as the clock ticked down in the second quarter.
Colby scored a touchdown and field goal to put the score 22-7, later pulling ahead in the fourth to end the game 39-22 in Colby’s favor.
Orioles head coach Brody Mahr shared more after the game.
“We came out and played really well on both sides of the ball,” he said. “We built some momentum early, and I thought our kids showed some glimpses of how good we can be when we are executing at a high level.
“In the second half, turnovers and some short offensive possessions hurt us, and once the momentum shifted we struggled to get it back. Against a good football team like Colby, you have to be able to respond to those swings and continue executing.
“Jesse Allard, Max Acker and Kaynen Steinbach each scored touchdowns for us.
“Moving forward, the biggest thing for us is learning how to fight through adversity and finish football games. When something doesn’t go our way, we need to be able to reset, move on to the next play and continue doing our jobs. We saw a lot of things in the first half that we can build on. Now the challenge is sustaining that level of play for four quarters.”
The Orioles now face Cadott at Stanley-Boyd Friday at 7 p.m.
