The Oriole boys varsity met Elk Mound in an away game Thursday, Feb. 5, coming away with a loss. Taking the initiative they returned home to face Ladysmith on Monday, coming away with a 65-39 final in the Oriole’s favor.
Oriole boys varsity head basketball coach Dakota Nichols shared more after results.
“We didn’t play our best game, as we had 21 turnovers,” he said of Elk Mound. “Give credit to Elk Mound’s defense for playing physical and forcing us to take tough shots. This will be a good learning experience for our team, as we prepare for the rest of our regular season.”
As for Ladysmith, Nichols said the team had gotten back to its strengths.
“We did a great job of playing together and just getting back to our strengths,” he said. “The past few games it seemed like we got away from what made us great, so it’s nice to see the kids come together and get a win at home.”
Top point scorer against Elk Mound was Brenner Myers with 22 points, followed by Josiah Demske with 15 and Charlie Hoel with 14, Brayten Mallo scoring seven points and Troy Haas three.
