Meeting McDonell at home Thursday, the Oriole girls varsity came up wanting, the final score 76 - 22 in McDonell’s favor.
With McDonell gaining an early lead with 45 points in the first half to 14 for Stanley-Boyd, those contributing points to the final Oriole score sheet Thursday included Avery Mahr (7 points), Aaliyah Allard (2 points), Ava Prahl (5 points), Ella Nitz (2 points), Kamryn Derks (3 points), and Lauren Potaczek (3 points). Orioles head coach Ryan Wundrow shared more after the game.
“We are looking to finish our season strong and continue to improve,” he said. “We get a boost by getting Syleen Seichter back off of an injury. She will provide depth and some experience. Ava Prahl and Ella Nitz have done a good job inside for us when she was out and they gained a lot of experience. We finish our conference season with two good teams in Regis and Bloomer. Our stretches of good basketball have increased over the season and we were tied at halftime with a good Osseo-Fairchild team last Monday before we went cold. The girls have the best attitudes and are very receptive to all we have done this year as a lot of things have been very different. My first goal of the season was to make it fun and leave them wanting to play more basketball. I think we have accomplished that for the most part and look forward to building the program up.”
The Orioles play Bloomer on Friday Feb. 9 at Bloomer High School. Game start is 7:15 p.m.
