The Oriole girls varsity took to the court against McDonell and Marathon at Stanley-Boyd last week, coming away 48 - 56 against McDonell and 45 - 36 against Marathon.
Contributing points against McDonell were Caitlin Ketterhagen with 13, Vaida Chwala with nine, Kendall Sikora and Alaina Nitz with eight points a piece, Amanda Lew with seven, Stella Chwala with two, and Ella Nitz with one.
As for the game against Marathon Friday, Orioles girls varsity head basketball coach Ryan Wundrow shared more after results.
“Our girls really battled a good Marathon team that will finish in the top of their conference,” he said. “They were much longer than us which presents a lot of challenges. We were outrebounded a little in the first half but our pressure defense really did a great job of creating turnovers. Amanda Lew led us with 6 steals that night and was a terror on defense for the other team. She also chipped in 9 points and 3 assists. Caitlen Ketterhagen led us in scoring with 10. Ella and Alaina Nitz worked very hard on the glass and defending some very good post players. Stella and Lula Chwala did a great job of pressuring the ball. We held at team to 45 points which was averaging 63 at the time. Bailey Sikora also put in 8 points. Our defense played well enough to win the game but we just didn’t make enough shots. It’s a process of not only making shots but taking good shots. When we are not making shots we need to find a way to get to the free throw line. Our best offense has been playing great defense and we will continue to improve. Thank you all to those that support our program!”
The Orioles next play Fall Creek at Stanley-Boyd on Thursday, Jan. 22 at Stanley-Boyd. Game start is 6:30 p.m.
