Week’s play brings season record to 1-7 overall, 0-2 in conference

The Stanley-Boyd Orioles played away and at home the last week, heading to Osseo- Fairchild Dec. 13, followed with a home game against Fall Creek Dec. 16. The twin losses 67 – 60 to Osseo-Fairchild and 52-31 to Fall Creek put the Orioles at a 1-7 record overall this season, with 0-2 in conference. Coach Dakota Nichols shared his thoughts after the results.

“I talked with the boys about how important the little things are in a basketball game,” he said. “We sometimes forget to close out and box out properly in games, allowing Osseo- Fairchild and Fall Creek to get second chance points.”

Regarding the Osseo game, Nichols said that in spite of turnover and free throws, the Orioles had only lost by 7 points.

“Despite having 17 turnovers and missing 9 free throws, we lost the game by only 7pts,” he said of the away game. “We shot ourselves in the foot a little and let that game get away from us. That game was a great learning experience for our young team. I was proud of the way the boys battled, and I give credit to Osseo-Fairchild for making their free throws at the end to hold us off.”

As to the Fall Creek game at home, Nich-ols said the Orioles had done better on offense in the second half.

“On offense I thought we did a better job in the second half of moving the ball and taking better shots,” he said. “With only 7 turnovers, I was impressed with how well we took care of the ball. Defensively, we doubled down on Vollrath and got him in foul trouble early which was huge. Credit to Fall Creek, they are a good basketball team.”

The Orioles play an away game against Cadott Dec. 22. Game start is at 7:15 p.m.
