Coming off a string of losses, the Oriole girls varsity came away with two wins, defeating Cadott 45 - 34 Jan. 28 followed by a win against Thorp 45-33 Jan. 31.
Orioles head coach Ryan Wundrow shared more on what went into the wins after game scores were in.
“We were able to get some wins this week because we have built some good basketball habits. Starting in Cadott we played one of our better games of the year even though we didn’t shoot well. We only had 14 turnovers which is our season low, and only 2 in the second half. Bailey and Kendall Sikora both had double-doubles with 12 and 10, and 13 and 11 respectively. Syleen also had 4 points and 17 rebounds. She seems healed up from her injury from last year where she missed over half the season . We really took some good steps in that game and showed some of our potential. The Thorp game was a win but we know we can play better. The Thorp girls were very scrappy and physical. We were lucky to come away with a win but sometimes you have games like that as well. Bailey and Kendall again led us with 13 and 11 points. Aaliyah Allard pitched in 10 and Lauren Potaczek hit two threes in the first half to help give us a large lead. Going forward we need to learn how to handle pressure and communicate better in defense. We have some tough games ahead that will really test us. We hope to be playing our best ball at the end of the year.”
Facing Thorp Jan. 31, the Orioles opened with twin three pointers, one by Bailey Sikora and another by Aaliyah Allard. A two pointer by Allard widened the points board, the night’s leadings scorer being Bailey and Kendall Sikora.
Seichter play the night without her knee brace, the Orioles keeping fouls under control as they retained the lead against the Cardinals.
Now with a 7-11 record and playoffs soon to come, the Orioles will play McDonell Central this Thursday at home, followed with another home game against Regis Feb. 11 and an away game against Bloomer Feb. 14. The Orioles play the Owen-Withee Blackhawks Feb. 20. for crossover, at Owen-Withee. All game start times are 7:15 p.m.
