Traveling to Auburndale last week, the Stanley-Boyd Orioles came away with a 33-14 win over the Eagles. Touchdowns for the evening include Porter Goettl, Griffin Dahm, Braxton Demars and Kaynen Steinbach. Micah Krajacic made a pick six touchdown in the second half, running the ball downfield for points. Brady Birky meanwhile also had an interception return downfield for 71 yards, with Steinbach making a two point conversion and Dahm making an interception. Deven Parker made long punts for 77 yards, while Max Acker had 82 rushing yards and Jesse Allard contributed 31 yards in kick returns.
Oriole varsity head football coach Brody Mahr shared more after the game.
“I’m really proud of our players,” he said. “We faced quite a bit of adversity Friday night and, instead of folding or backing down, the kids just kept battling. Auburndale is a physical football team, and I thought we matched that physicality. We also dealt with a number of injuries throughout the game, so it really became a next-man-up type of night.
“About halfway through the second quarter, our starting quarterback went down and Griffin Dahm stepped in at quarterback. I thought Griffin did an outstanding job. He helped lead us to three touchdowns, throwing for two and running for another. For a young player to get thrown into that situation and respond the way he did says a lot about him.
“Max Acker led us on the ground and ran the ball extremely hard, and Kaynen Steinbach led us in receiving. Overall, I thought our offensive line and backs did a much better job of playing physical and allowing us to establish the run.
“Defensively, Brady Birky’s interception was a huge play and really felt like it sealed the game for us. Then Micah Krajacic’s interception return for a touchdown was the icing on top. Those were two big plays from kids who stepped up when we needed them.
“More than anything, I was proud that when things went wrong, the kids didn’t turn on each other or stop competing. They kept playing, kept responding and found a way to finish the game.”

The Orioles now play Neillsville/Granton on Friday at Oriole Park. Game start is 7 p.m.
