One win, one loss, and an adjusted season record to reflect same. That’s the takeaway from last week in Oriole varsity softball. Facing off with Osseo-Fairchild at home on Tuesday April 23, the Orioles came away with a 15-5 win.
Facing Fall Creek two nights later at Fall Creek they came away with a 9 - 2 loss, bringing the overall game record this year 1-5 in conference and 5-7 overall. Orioles head softball coach Andrea Mahr shared more after scores were tallied.
“Our game against Osseo was a great game,” she said. “I was so happy that we were able to bounce back and start the week on a positive note. We played our game and had some great hits starting in the first inning. We were able to score in every inning too, which is a definite highlight.”
As for Fall Creek, Mahr said the team initially capitalized on Fall Creek errors and held the Crickets for many innings, but that Oriole errors contributed to the loss.
“Against Fall Creek, we scored right away and capitalized on their errors,” she said. “Unfortunately, we did have some errors ourselves, letting them get back in the game early on. We held them for many innings and played some quality ball. Fall Creek is one of the best teams in the state. I think it is great for us to get to face them and learn how to compete at that level.”
The Orioles girls varsity next plays Bloomer at Bloomer on Thursday, May 2. Game start is 5:00 p.m.
