The Stanley-Boyd varsity Orioles are regional champions!
Playing the Bloomer Blackhawks on Thursday, May 28 at Oriole Park, the varsity softball team defeated the Blackhawks 6-0 to clinch the regional championship.
Orioles varsity head coach Kim Goettl shared more after the score tally.
"The Girls were focused and ready for Bloomer,” she said. “Their chemistry makes them so strong and they understand how to encourage each other. Our line-up is so strong throughout that it anyone is struggling we have the rest of the line-up to pick them up.”
Among those contributing to the Thursday win against Bloomer was pitcher Caitlen Ketterhagen with no runs and just three hits, as well as Dannea Wundrow, Amanda Lew, Ella Nitz, Nevaeh Walters, and Bailey Sikora.
Sikora doubled on a fly ball in the bottom of the first, then advancing to third on an error by Bloomer and sending Ketterhagen towards home. The other five runs came in the bottom of the third, with Wundrow singling on a fly ball before advancing to second allowing Ketterhagen and sikora to score. Walters doubled on a fly ball to center field allowing Lew to score, with Ella Nitz hitting a fly ball and advancing to second while Walters scored.
Scoring hits but not runs for Bloomer were Lily Pahulu, Kayt Pahulu, and Genevieve Telschow, with quick outs on both sides making the seven innings pass quickly.
Now 20-2 overall after wins prior wins against the Blair Taylor Wildcats (5-0), Augusta Beavers (10-1), and Neillsville Warriors (11-0), the Orioles faced the Prescott Cardinals after press time Tuesday, June 2 at Oriole Park.
