The Oriole wrestlers competed at New Richmond Saturday, Jan. 3, coming away with several high points.
Orioles head varsity wrestling coach Jake Fitzsimmons shared more after results.
“The girls took first as a team beating D1 River Falls,” he said. “They wrestled well and this is the first time taking first as a team in program history. We have double digit girls out for wrestling now and look to keep carrying this momentum forward. Nevaeh Walters led us with a 1st place finish.
“On the boys side we took sixth as a team and finished in the top half. Willy Graham had a big day getting his 100th career pin and taking first. He beat the #6 ranked 215 in the state in the finals. I was proud of our young wrestlers who got multiple wins in Blake Peterson, Will Sorenson, Ryan Bowe, and Kyle Pahl. They have all been working really hard in the room and continue to take steps forward.
“Our boys start conference action this week and the girls will be wrestling at UW-Stevens Point on Friday against some of the best girls teams in the state.”
The boys team competes in a wrestling triangular Thursday, Jan. 8 at Colfax High School. Start time is 5:30 p.m.
