Otter Lake to host Family Fishing Contest

Joint event by Stanley Rod and Gun Club, Otter Lake Boosters Jan. 17

A family fishing contest will take place Saturday, Jan. 17 on Otter Lake, north of Stanley.
The contest, involving a free fishing weekend with no license needed, is being put on by the Otter Lake Boosters in conjunction with the Stanley Rod and Gun Club.
The Stanley Rod and Gun Club will host an adult ice fishing contest from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., while the Otter Lake Booster Club will host a free kids ice fishing contest from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The adult contest by the Stanley Rod and Gun Club will have five fishing categories, including Blue Gill, Crappie, Northern, Bass, and Perch, with cash prizes for large fish and a 50/50 raffle. In addition there will be $5,000 in raffle prizes and a grand prize of a Browning AB3 30-06. Tickets for the raffle are available from the bait shops and club members, as well as on the day of the event.

As for the kids ice fishing contest, it is open to ages 15 and younger and will take place off the south boat landing on Otter Lake. The contest with two age divisions will have with three fish categories, including bluegills, crappies, and perch. Contest trophies will be provided courtesy of Adam Smit, with a warming tent from the Booster Club and kids fishing bait provided courtesy of the Otter Lake Bait Shop. Free hot dogs and hot cocoa will be available for registered contest participants in the warming tent, courtesy of Hansen’s IGA. Every fish caught will get a prize, with contest participants provided a happy meal courtesy of Stanley and Thorp McDonalds.
