Chippewa Falls native, Julia Numes, has been selected to be the 73rd Alice in Dairyland. She now becomes the communications professional for the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. Her job will be to educate the public about the importance of agriculture in Wisconsin. +++ Classic cars and trucks converged on the Bloomer Historical House Museum on Friday, June 19. Members from three car clubs visited the museum and then enjoyed a picnic at the North Park in Bloomer. Neighborhood residents enjoyed the 20 classic cars that were parked on the nearby streets and lawn of the museum. The Bloomer Historical House is open by appointment only.

The Northwestern Bank welcomed Rita Derks into their 50-year club as a bank employee. She has been with Northwestern Bank since their arrival in Thorp in 1989. +++ The Thorp Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau will be presenting a Fireworks Extravaganza on Friday, July 3 at dusk. The show will take place at Northside Park. +++ The Thorp fourth grade teachers made more than 50 deliverers when they visited each of their students in an end of the school year journey. They drove over 100 miles in showing their support for the kids in their classes.

The Cadott community held a “normal as possible” graduation ceremony honoring the Class of 2020, Friday, June 19, at The Barn on Stoney Hill. Many of the same program features of a normal graduation took place. When the ceremony was over, students began talking about being “… upset and uneasy about not getting a proper ceremony.” The school sponsored, Chippewa County socially distanced graduation, is scheduled for July 16. +++ The Cornell Visitors Center has a new 32” TV, DVD player, local TV antenna, printer with a scanner and two book cases, thanks to the Charles J. and Sally F. Smith Cornell Community Fund, through the Community Foundation of Chippewa County. Judy Talbot, director of the visitor’s center noted that the above stated purchases were made with the $446 dollars received. +++ The Cadott Cemetery Association (Brooklawn) has approached the village board to take over the duties that heretofore have been the responsibilities of the association. The current board has been unsuccessful in finding new members to serve and replace members who are no longer able to serve for various reasons.

On Thursday, June 18, a small gathering was held at Munson Bridge Winery, Withee to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Clark County Economic Development Corporation and Tourism Bureau. +++ Yellowstone Computing, owned and operated by Joe Smoczyk, has relocated to 219 N. Washington Street in downtown Thorp. For the last 10 years he has been working out of his home on Birch Street. Joe authors a periodic computer issues column in The Sentinel & Rural News newspaper.
Tribune Photograph (Colby-Abbotsford) The Central Fire and EMS board voted 4-2 against the purchase of a new Pierce Pumper fire engine, that would have cost $582,125. Reasons expressed included “the COVID economy” has left people without much disposable income and farmers have taken a hit on the products they sell. +++ Local contractor, Frances Melvin Inc. was awarded $1.6 million in contracts to reconfigure and resurface West Spruce Street in Abbotsford. +++ The Colby FFA Alumni were not going to let the month of June come to an end without at least one dairy breakfast in the area. On Sunday, June 28, they held a drive through at the Colby Lions Shelter, where residents picked up a traditional dairy breakfast, complete with pancakes and sausage, applesauce, cheese curds and a carton of milk.

The county’s escalating number of COVAD-19 cases prompted the Arcadia City Council to keep parks and green space closed and to deny a permit for a political rally that could have attracted 500 people. +++ Arcadia’s Wanek Center will reopen on July 1. The fitness facility, built on the high school, will limit the number of people in any room to 10, hours will be limited, only individuals over age 18 will be admitted and social distancing rules will be in place. Hours of operation will be M-F, 5 am to 10 am and after closure each day there will be a deep cleaning of all areas used by patrons. +++ Ashley Furniture and the Wanek family have contributed another $100,000 towards the construction of a new ambulance facility in Arcadia.
Tri-County News (Osseo-Augusta) The City of Osseo is in the process of arranging funding for a new wastewater treatment plant. SEH Engineering of Chippewa Falls is providing general engineering support for the new plant. +++ The Augusta Library is hosting another free virtual presentation titled, “The Nature of Liberty,” on Tuesday, July 7, at 7 pm. The program is one of several available through the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Badger Talks and will be presented by Professor Daniel Kapust. This is an adult presentation with a focus on the political issues of the day.

On Tuesday, June 16, City of Mondovi leaders and members of the Mondovi Park Board participated in a groundbreaking for a new pavilion to be constructed at Mirror Lake Park. Conversations related to a new picnic shelter and bathroom facilities have been taking place in the community for about 10 years. The new facility will replace an aging shelter and bathroom facility.
